Projects | Melt 26’

  • The melt projects involve the use of seasonal temperature changes to create and physically affect the art object; transforming the object and its apparatus over the duration of its existence.

The unique properties and conditions of each annual transition change. Influencing the focus and form of each project. Each presenting its own opportunities and challenges. Rendering a body of work that originates from its own chosen material and theoretical inputs, takes on its own form and apparatus, and results in its own set of objective outputs.

  • The focal object exists a solid mass, layered earth and ice, constructed, formed by way of a systematic freezing and addition of various layers of fine to coarse grain dried clay detritus from other works; repurposed and situated the larger cycle of their existence. All of the clay existing within the broader body context of its existence in multiple forms cycled and recycled until considered “archival” finally reaching its maturity as ceramic component.

The current form as it exists in its time will thaw, decay and the anchor will fail; affecting the entire piece and its apparatus as it approaches its last state and stasis. Its remains, visually sprawling out beaneath it, drying on the floor to present a new landform, can be viewed from above. While its remaining anchor components suspended and solitary above; a final and revealing hint to events that unfolded prior.

  • Project Duration | 12 Days + Post Production | 01.02.2026 - TBD

  • Primary Physical Materials

Water, Residual Clay Detritus, Traditional Climbing Gear

    Theoretical and Conceptual Foundations

Landscape Theory, Geologic Time, Annual Cycles, Balance, Awareness, and the Cognition and Psychology of risk, stability, safety, violence and trauma.

  • Materials

Water (ice), repurposed clay detritus, #11,9,7 wired nut anchors, 220mm dyneema sling, carabiners, 70m 8.9mm climbing rope, harness, 25lbs. wet clay bagged.

    Method

Use the sub zero temperatures of current conditions to freeze layers (strata) of water and dried clay into a form with embedded climbing gear to create a “ground anchor” that will be allowed to melt under load and eventually fail, causing a violent reaction that leaves traces of the event. Document for supporting outputs and future concept exhibition.

  • Apparatus | To Be Exhibited as sculptural installation

Video | Documentation and sculptural component TBE

Photography & Print | Documentation and Limited Purchase
